NüVoices is an international editorial collective gathering veteran and emerging writers, journalists, translators and artists to celebrate and support the diverse creative work of self-identified women working on the subject of China (broadly defined). Launched in March 2018, their directory now holds more than 500 female experts on Greater China, is a popular tool for journalists and event organizers and has significantly boosted women and minorities’ representation in media stories and conference programming.
Shortly before launch, I was approached to revamp the logo by building off the vision of original designer Rebecca Jensen, whose original design consisted of an an elongated oval in the shade of salmon pink. The objective was to stick to its original oval but elevate it through a more expressive icon that now emphasizes the collective’s bilingualism and focus on writing and the arts. Organic lines and bubbly, handwritten type is applied in order to retain a carefree and fluid look.
